Riding the boundary between public and private

Dear Gilbert,

We'd be happy to support your ARTcycle project - it certainly ties in with Rider Spoke and our interest in cycles as a platform for art and performance.

Artists Selected and notified

Dear Artists,

We are happy to inform you that your work has been accepted for participation in "Sketching The Gamut".  Below are important dates and instructions for participation.  This exhibition is only up for a single week and so our install process is going to be tight.  We ask that you deliver you work on time, or, if that is not possible, to arrange for it to be delivered on time so that we can put the exhibition together in this short time frame.

We would also like to invite all the artists involved in Sketching The Gamut to participate in the latest Tour The Green Ring.  These are bicycle tours of portions of The Green Ring to give people a chance to experience it first hand.  The rides will take place this Sunday, weather permitting.

If you are able to attend, these are the two tours scheduled for Sunday.  Could you please email Gilbert Grace on info(at)artcyclesydney.com to let him know you are coming.

Ride 3: Meet 9:45am for 10am departure. Wolli Creek to Summer Hill.
Ride 4: Meet 1:15pm for 1:30 departure. Summer Hill to Sydney Town Hall

cheers

Alex

CALLOUT TO ARTISTS:

SKETCHING THE GAMUT

ARTcycle Inc. ATVP and INDEX. are currently seeking proposals for artworks to be included in a one week exhibition in October at INDEX. Art Space. This exhibition will not attract artist fees. Inclusion will be based on merit of proposed work. Sketching the Gamut will be preliminary stage of a larger art project called THE GAMUT.

'The Gamut',
is an art project that will involve drawing upon the face of the city, the rough outline of a circle. This form, called The Sydney Green Ring will not be drawn in pencil or ink, but in the topography and built environment of the living city. By mapping together and connecting existing infrastructure, green spaces, waterways, bicycle paths, sites of historical and artistic importance, The Gamut will both discover and inscribe this form in the awareness and imagination of its public. Thus emphasizing and iterating these implicit connections, The Gamut will endeavor to make them manifest, actualizing the circle into a unified, usable, sustainable form inscribed onto the already existing topography of the city.

Effectively, The Sydney Green Ring is a collection of walking and cycle paths that create a circle around Sydney. Sketching The Gamut will present a body of work exploring and promoting the potentials of The Sydney Green Ring to improve the sustainability, livability, and biodiversity of the Inner Sydney Region. All works will be propositional and speculative, experimental models describing or evoking projects that could potentially be made in the real environment as a part of the larger project of The Gamut. Proposed works need not be achievable but should explore and promote the potentials of The Sydney Green Ring with the intention of opening dialogue and developing strategies toward real world outcomes.

Sketching The Gamut
will include a one week exhibition, a bicycle tour of The Sydney Green Ring (over two days), and a public forum to discuss the issues raised by the project.

Exhibition will be during October, beginning the week of the 24th. A bicycle tour in four stages of the Sydney Green Ring will be held on the weekend of the 24th and 25 of September as part of RTA Bike Week.
